Tomorrow’s the Big Day: Pre-Readathon Prep!

Hey guys!

The event I have been looking forward to for so long is fast approaching, Dewey’s 24 Hour Readathon will begin for me in UK time at 1pm tomorrow, only a matter of hours to go! 😀
I’m so excited to be participating in this great event, so far 434 readers have signed up and I am honoured to be joining them.

I just thought I would explain a little bit about how I will be tracking my progress on my blog. In the past I have seen bloggers do it in a variety of ways, many do a new post on their blog with every mini-challenge or regularly on scheduled hours. However, I don’t want to be clogging up your inbox with multiple posts, especially for those that aren’t interested in the readathon and my progress! So, I will do all of my updates on one main post – my progress, mini-challenges, complaints, etc. It would mean so much to me if you could pop by a few times in the day, to say hi and cheer me on, or even just with any crazy anecdotes from your day. 🙂 I may need it, especially in the early hours of my time zone and look at it this way, you may get to witness my slow spiral into insanity from lack of sleep! Won’t that be fun?

I have also finally chosen my readathon stack of books and I tell you, it was not easy to do! There are so many novels I want to read right now that it was hard to prioritise. I wanted to pick ones I thought I would enjoy, so the majority are by author’s I already know and love, but there are also a few unknowns. The one book I know I’ll pick up is Trudi Canavan’s, the rest will depend on my mood tomorrow. There’s no way I will get through all of these books, in fact, I doubt I will even make it through two because I’m a slow reader! But hey, I like to have options. 🙂

  1. OMG!!! 24 hours of straight uninterrupted reading sounds like a dream come true. I will have to enjoy this vicariously through you since we have to move our son home from college tomorrow. Don’t worry about how much you read Becky. Just enjoy ever minute :).

    • Hahaa yeah it definitely is!! I have been looking forward to this for weeks, just being able to relax and sink into another word for so long will be great. I feel like it’s Christmas Eve or something. 😀 I have a presentation that I need to prep for uni for Monday but I am choosing to ignore it. 😉

I won’t, my goal is just to enjoying myself rather than to finish books. That way I can flick between as many of them as I want on my own fancy, rather than sticking to one at a time, LOL.

  2. Good luck! That sounds like loads of fun that I might actually try it though I have heaps of things to do. One book that I think you can make your way through in one day (or part of it) is the Silver Linings Playbook. It’s fast-paced and its style is light. I hope you’ll have fun with whichever book you pick up though! 😀

    • Hello, thanks, although I’m not sure whether I will end up reading that one or not, I have to many choices it’s impossible to choose lol!

Thank you, I will try to stop by and cheer you on along the way. 🙂

  3. This is awesome (and it reminded me I still have to put up my post. Better get on that!) and I can’t wait to see how it all goes. I’m really excited to spend the whole day doing this and to see what everyone else does.

    • Thanks, haha yep better get on that. Although there are no rules really, I just felt like posting about it the day before. Me too, it’s going to be epic and I will definitely be popping over to your site to cheer you on. 🙂 We can keep each other sane in the early hours!

  4. I’ve heard great things about the Silver Linings Playbook, but haven’t read it so I’m looking forward to your thoughts on it. Have you seen the movie yet? Also Treasure Island! I remember reading an abridged version of it when I was a kid, but that’s were my memory ends. I should probably get around to it at some point. Happy reading! 🙂

    • Me too, so I’m hoping that it won’t disappoint! No I haven’t seen the film yet but I really want to, I love Jennifer Lawrence and the trailer for it was awesome, that’s why I’ve decided to put this book in my stack, I want to read the book before I see the film. 🙂
Hehee, don’t worry, I am like that with so many books that I read as a child as well, I often remember the enjoyment of reading something but not much else about it.

      Thank you!

      • I love her too and can’t wait to see it, especially after she won an oscar for it. I might read the book first, but if there’s an opportunity to watch it soon I probably will 🙂
Yeah, I was just talking to my sister about this book I read in sixth grade and she has to read now and realized that I barely remember anything other than really liking it. Human memory is a tricky thing.

  5. Good lord, this has crept up on you a bit.

I recommend doing some light training an hour before it starts – get some blank bits of paper and just leisurely fold them and unfold them. I also recommend reading through the ingredients list on the back of a bottle of shampoo. The complex words will test your brain, but they’re so anonymous that you won’t get emotionally attached to them.

    Good luck.

  6. Crikey this has come around fast! Good luck Becky! This sounds incredibly challenging, but I’m sure you’ll do it.
Last year I stayed awake for 24 hours playing nothing but drama games to raise money for Children In Need we called it a ’24 hour improvathon’. And let me tell you, staying awake for 24 hours is exhausting… My advice to you is don’t watch the clock. Occasionally set yourself sporadic alarms maybe every few hours or so just to remind you of the time, but honestly, watching the clock makes time go so much slower. Hope it goes well! And enjoy it as well.

    • I know it’s crazy! But exciting. Thanks, although I think even I will struggle, I’m not that great at reading for long periods of time, so I will definitely be taking breaks. 🙂
Improvathon – I love the name! That sounds hardcore. I have stayed up for 24 hours and more before with friends, but never on something I have to actually concentrate on! So this will be 100 times more difficult!
Thanks for the advise, I shall definitely use it. 🙂

  7. Good luck and have fun. I worry it might be like someone smoking 30 cigarettes at once to cure them of ever smoking again…you might never read again!

Nah…not going to happen, is it?

    >>you may get to witness my slow spiral into insanity from lack of sleep!

Hmmm…I think we all saw that a few weeks ago….

I’ve been practisicing with my pom-poms and high kicks if you need a cheerleader!

    • Haha I hope not, I really, really hope not! I would like to think that I could never be put off reading.

Saw that a few week ago…….when? LOL.

Woop woop, thank you Tony, I definitely need a cheerleader. 😀
