Two Blogtastic Years!

Blogoversary 3

It’s my two year blogoversary, holy Dickens, Brontë and Tolstoy! My little blog is growing up quickly. This date really snuck up on me, so much so in fact that I actually missed the ‘official’ blogoversary date, which was the 10th, whoops!

I’m struggling to come up with anything that will sound genuine and heartfelt while avoiding the line of cheesy or clichéd for this post, because honestly, I never expected this blog to become anything. I thought I would write a few book reviews and if I was lucky, I might get a comment and then shut the thing down after a few months. I know, I know, everybody says that, but I had no idea what an amazing and enjoyable outlet this would become and all the fantastic people I would encounter!
As I was growing up I always felt book lovers were in the minority. While I had encountered a few people that liked to settle down with a good book they didn’t seem all that passionate about reading, not the way I was. But with WordPress it was like a whole new world opened up, there was an ENTIRE community of book lovers out there, one I had never realised existed. Suddenly being a bookworm didn’t seem like an odd quirk to poke fun at, it was an accepted, positive hobby to be celebrated with others. I think I would be a little lost now without all the bookish chatter back and forth with you all, it is hard to remember what life was like without it! And here’s my attempt at something profound: When I started this little blog my tag line was the quote ‘Whatever you do in life will be insignificant, but it’s very important that you do it.’ by Ghandi (but the Remember Me phrasing) because while most things we do in life are barely a dot on the map of the universe, if we approached life in that way we would never do anything. So I want to thank every person who has ever read, liked or commented on this little blog because you have made this bookworm feel like what she is doing might just be the tiniest bit significant. 😀

Here comes the random listy list part!

Some Fun Stats From my Two Years of Blogging:

46,584 Fingerprints.

424 Friends.

189 Vaguely Coherent Rambles.

57 Wonderful Books Discovered.

My Favourite Posts:
1.) My Updates for Dewey’s 24-Hour Readahon – This year was my first time participating and I had so much fun doing so. I decided to update my progress continually on one post, so that fellow bloggers could watch my slow spiral into insanity from lack of sleep! I was truly touched by how many of you cheered me on along the way. 😀

2.) A Conversation With My Housemate – This was a complete spur of the moment post after a conversation that left me in so much disbelief! I had to write it down.

3.) Sick-Lit The New Trend? YA Books That May Harm Your Kids ‘Apparently’ – This post was a reaction to an article I found that felt books covering mental health, terminal disease and death were harmful to kids and young teens. I felt very passionately about the subject and it seems you guys did too!

4.) Breaking Dawn Part 2 Film Review – Ohh I had so much fun with this, my sarcasm was in full swing and it was nice to vent some Twilight angst!

5.) Where do You Get Your Writing Inspiration? – In which I struggle to get back into writing fiction for my one year creative writing course.

6.) DAY 11: Your Favourite Classic – This was a topic on The 30 Day Book Challenge and I loved having the opportunity to ramble on about my love for Wuthering Heights. 😀

P.S. I sit here writing this from my brand new living room in London. I moved in this week for the impending first semester of my second year. Things will probably feel a bit odd for a while with new housemates to get to know, routines to get in the swing of and workloads to contend with so I expect the blog will probably become a bit less active for a while. Wish me luck!

P.P.S. Watch out for some new visual changes to Blogs-Of-A-Bookaholic coming soon!

  1. Wowwww! Happy blogaversary Becks!! As an avid and perhaps overly keen follower of your blog, I have to say that reading all your posts is definitely a highlight of the blogging experience! Huge congratulations on those stats. If my little blog reaches anywhere near those numbers I’ll be chuffed 🙂 keep blogging. Looking forward to the visual updates and your next post. Ooh and good luck with your new year at uni and living in London!

    • Thank you, Lottie! I love that you are avid reader and there’s no such thing as over keen when it comes to blogging in my opinion, LOL. 😛 Thanks, I have no idea how they compare to other people’s but I’m proud either way, I never thought I would get 10 views at the start, let along that many!
I sure hope I will keep blogging for a long time and I hope life doesn’t get in the way. Thanks again, 😀 now I’ve just got to work out how to balance blogging with university all over again.

  2. A very nice post. One of my favorite parts was the “Favorite Posts” Section. Congratulations on two years! Please keep going! I have a lot of work to do to catch up. :-).

    • Thank you. 🙂 I really enjoyed sifting through my older post from this year and picking my favourites, it was a nice little trip down memory lane!

Thank you, haha hopefully my little blog will keep going for a long time. 🙂

  3. YAY! Happy Birthday Blogs-of-a-Bookaholic! But wait, I’m getting a strange sense of deja vu here…I remember cyber-singing Happy Birthday to your bloggy not so long ago. Was that another anniversary? Has Nisha officially gone cray-cray…? :-/

      • Hahaa you did indeed cyber sing me and my blog Happy Birthday last year for my first anniversary! It’s so surreal how quickly the time flies by…possibly a little worrying too, lol.

Thank you for reading all this time, Nisha! 😀

      • I know right? Scary how fast time flies! Thank you, I’m expecting an intense work load this year which should be fun. 😛 ‘Virtual bookish family’ – love it! Maybe that should be my new catchphrase, he he.

I know, I didn’t get many comments for the first few months and on that first post the comment only came much later, long after I had written it! How things change indeed. 😀

  4. Happy birthday Becky’s Blogs! It’s about two years for me as well and it’s amazing to think how much time and effort goes into a blog over that period of time.

I hope you still bear a grudge against your housemate as well.

    • Ohh cool what a coincidence, happy blogoversary-ish to you too then! 🙂 Exactly, all that time which could have been spent socialising, studying, reading and doing all those normal important things that I spent time blogging with instead. 😛 I’m sure it would sound crazy to most normal people but I’m proud.

      Ohh I totally do!

  5. Yayyyyyyy!!!! Congrats on two years of your absolutely wonderfully amazing blog, oh book buddy of mine :). I know exactly what you are talking about when it comes to blogging. I never expected mine to last either, and I can’t imagine my life now without my blogging family! Best of luck this year at uni and in your new home for the school year. Your housemates are lucky to have you :).

    • Awwwwh, thank you so much Cindy! I am so glad to of had the luck of encountering you in this big wide blogosphere. With all the bloggers out there it’s quite amazing that we happened to encounter each other with our unbelievably kindred spirits when it comes to books. 🙂 Love the term blogging family, it really does feel like a whole little community on here.

Thank you, I hope they feel that way, lol! We’ll see.

  6. I’m highly impressed and a little bit jealous. Congrats! Hopefully it all now seems worthwhile 🙂

It’s crazy that there are SO many other people that like reading as much as I do. I totally agree with you there. I’m so glad that we managed to connect! *tears*

Bring on the next blogging year is all I can say!

    • Hehe thank you and no need to be jealous, your blog is AMAZING, I think I’m actually addicted to it because I get so excited when one of your posts appears in my inbox. 😀 It definitely seems worthwhile now, I’m glad I stuck with it.

I’m so glad we connected to! It’s amazing how down to chance it can be discovering bloggers on here, so I’m super happy I stumbled across yours. I completely agree, it still amazes me how many other bookworms are out there that I didn’t realise existed until WordPress.

      Thanks and ditto. 🙂

  7. aw Happy Blog-a-versary 🙂 I for one am glad I found your blog! I know what you mean I don’t know a lot of people who are as into reading as I am, so it’s nice to be able to chat to someone who is! Glad you’re still enjoying it too.

Didn’t know you went to uni in London, which one do you go to? Good luck with everything at uni, I’m sure you’ll be fine 🙂

    • Thank you Sophie, I am so glad to have found yours as well! If it wasn’t for Elizabeth Chandler it never would have happened. 🙂 For sure! I mean, I do have one friend who is really into reading, but she tends to just like all books for being fun stories and it doesn’t go any further than that with the discussion so blogging is my only real outlet for gushing.

I do indeed! I won’t write it on here because of security reasons (hope that’s ok) but I will let you know. 🙂

  8. Congratulations Becky! I am so happy that your blogging developed into a happy, fulfilling hobby because your blogs are always great to read and I’m so happy to have met you! Good luck at uni in your new digs and I can’t wait to hear/see your blog updates! Happy Blogoversary!!! 😀

    • Thank you, Lauren! Me too, if someone had told me what this was going to turn into I wouldn’t have believed them. It’s one of my favourite pastimes now, next to reading of course. 😉 Awwhh, I’m so happy to have met you too and I equally love your blogs so ditto!

Judging by my snail pace with anything blog related at the moment those blog updates may be longer coming that I thought, but I hope I can sort them soon! Can’t wait to read all the lovely comments you’ve just left for me. 😀

  9. Happy belated bloggevesrary! Two years is great. Mine is relatively new. Have you ever considered going to the book expo of America one year? They do a lot for bloggers. You get a ton of free books, go to publishing open houses for MORE free books, and can get books signed by major authors. It’s in June (I know so far away). It’ll be my first year as a blogger. I was just a power reader so could only have access for one day. But, bloggers get access to the whole convention dates, plus more private events power readers, like myself, didn’t know happened.

    • Thank you! Trust me, my blog still feels new even though it’s two years on, those landmarks come round quicker than you think. 🙂
Oooh, thank you ohh wise one of book knowledge, until your comment I had never heard of book expo. I live in the UK so unfortunately I don’t think I would be able to go, I would definitely take part if I ever got the money or went on holiday there, it sounds amazing! It sounds like some kind of awesome secret club, I hope you enjoy going, even if June is far away!
