ABOUT: A young girl who loves books, set in the backdrop of World War II and narrated by death? Check, check and CHECK. This should be right up my alley, surely?

SURPRISE: Umm… turns out, not. I feel like the only person on the planet who is not in love with this book. I didn’t go into it with any particular expectations but had basically never seen a poor review of this. While I enjoyed the story and its twists and turns, I was surprised that I never developed any kind of emotional connection with it or the characters.

Hello everyone!

Today I wanted to highlight a bookish event going on in the UK. This is only the second year it has run so it’s a very new thing. While I saw many bloggers post about this event last year suggesting it’s widely known about, I thought I would mention it here just in case because I wouldn’t want anyone to miss out!

YALC is the UK’s first young adult literature convention and is held in London over three days with 40+ authors in attendance. It gives readers the chance to have books signed by their favourite authors, visit panels about bookish subjects and even take part in workshops and more!

BOOOOOOOK HAULLLLLLLLL. WEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!

I had so much fun taking pictures for this, in the same week I bought these amazing books I also found this beautiful bird cage lamp! I love the way it refracts the lights making patterns on the ceiling and table, it was awesome experimenting with the photos and the text for the header too.

This holiday I have been volunteering at a second hand book shop once a week. I absolutely love it and the only thing that could improve it would be actually getting paid. 😛 It never feels like hard work, the people are lovely and I love the atmosphere of constantly being surrounded by books of all shapes and sizes. Getting to be there when new donations come in you can discover some real hidden gems, a few surprises and a couple of cobwebby dead spiders or two!
