“When I have a little money, I buy books; and if I have any left, I buy food and clothes.”

This quote pretty much sums up my buying habits, and I have a feeling many of you will relate with it too!
There’s nothing like that feeling of going out, picking out a book and admiring its crisp pages and beautiful cover. And I have to admit, when I’m out shopping for clothing and look at a top wondering whether it’s worth the amount of money on its tag, I tend to think of the number of books I could buy with that money instead. 😉

And yet when homeless people say the same thing when it comes to justifying their purchases of cheap booze and fags, everyone is up in arms about it.
It’s one rule for the drug-addled, mentally ill unfortunates sleeping under bridges and another rule for the rest of us.
Hey Michael, you should read The Casual Vacancy by J.K. Rowling, it’s all about that kind of stuff, especially how hypocritical the world is – it pitches posh people from an idyllic UK country village against a council estate. You’d have fun with that one.
The world is a mysterious place!
It’s funny…if I have any money left over after buying books, I buy more books. 🙂
Haha, me too. Funny that. We’re totally unpredictable aren’t we?
This quote sums up my life right now. I’m in desperate need of a closet re-vamp but the BOOKS. I need ALL THE BOOKS. Loved this! xoxo
Hahaa, first world bookworm problems, I feel your pain! Despite all logic and reason, the mind can’t help but want the books over the other more practical things. 🙂
Good luck with the closet re-vamp!
Exactly!
Thankyou, I’ll have to start slowly accumulating some money for the re-vamp.
Hahaa, you’ll have to start a money jar with the label:
‘NOT FOR BOOKS.
NO, I MEAN IT.
NO, I REALLY, REALLY MEAN IT.
BACK AWAY FROM THE JAR.’
Hehee. 🙂
This post and the comments made me smile and giggle because we booklovers are all the same aren’t we? I’m so bad I don’t even wait until I have the money. If it’s a book I really want, nothing will stop me!! LOL
Me too! It’s amazing how similar our habits are. Phahaha, that made me laugh. I am EXACTLY the same. See the book… want the book… MUST HAVE THE BOOK. 🙂
As I’ve said many times before, there are a lot worse addictions we could have :). Reading is the healthiest addiction in the world!!
Damn right!
You know, my grandma lived to the ripe old age of 97, and I always remember her having a book on the go. It’s great for the mind, and it’s good for stress relief, so I have no doubt that you and I will live long and awesome lives :).
I love the idea of that, both of us sitting on our own porches until old age reading away the day, our bodies old but our minds strong! What a way to live. 🙂
I love it too :). At least we know we will never get bored, even if our bodies begin to fail us.
I’m all for buying everything wanted 😀
If you have the money, I agree, why not?!
I have no decent clothes and more books than I could ever possibly read. Take a wild guess what my money goes on. To be fair, I get more joy out of books than I do out of a t-shirt or dress that won’t last very long 😉
Hahaa, touche! And I agree, even though I like having nice clothes, I like having amazing pretty and entertaining books better. 🙂
